The use of new technology in language teachingSergio ViñalsTHE USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY IN LANGUAGE TEACHING
Special attention must be paid to the use of new technology in language teaching. In past years, technology was mainly reactive, but nowadays, it fosters interaction, autonomous learning, self-assessment and even co-operative assessment. Teachers should take into consideration today's state-of-the-art technology, leaving behind old-fashioned procedures for the sake of the latest pieces of equipment that have been progressively integrated in language schools. Therefore, new technology must be implemented and encouraged in our lessons, as the new technological era challenges our imagination and may improve teaching and learning in a significant way. It relaxes the atmosphere of the classroom and enhances the relations among our learners, boosting their motivation and speeding up their learning experience. Even computer illiterate students may feel attracted to technology, and we would be helping them acquire a digital alphabetization that by other means would have been impossible. What about you, fellow teachers? How do you use new technology in your lessons? Please feel free to use the Comments section to share your views with the community.
http://www.interpals.net/Sergio Viñals![]() For over a decade, InterPals has been the Internet's premier free site for online correspondence, cultural exchange, and learning foreign languages. Created in April 1998, the site began as the "International Penpal Page." A friendly forum for people to find email and postal penpals from around the world, the page quickly became so popular that it was rebuilt from the ground up in 1999 and renamed InterPals. Since then, the site has become by far the largest and most popular free pen pal site on the web. Our original mission remains unchanged: to help people find penpals and friends over the Internet for free. We are dedicated to providing this service to our users for free -- and at no point do we plan to start charging for any of our services. Your support for our sponsors (whose banners appear on our pages) make this site possible. http://www.interpals.net/
